Baseball Game Preview: Waterford Wildcats vs. Le Grand Bulldogs

The Waterford Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Le Grand Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Mariposa County hit Waterford with a four-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats lost 11-0 to the Grizzlies. The Wildcats' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Le Grand, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Mariposa County 4-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Diego Martinez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Le Grand is undefeated when Martinez allows two or fewer earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Martinez was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Martinez wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Fabian Meza, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Le Grand hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

Le Grand's record is now 11-6. As for Waterford, their loss dropped their record down to 8-13.

Waterford suffered a grim 15-1 defeat to Le Grand in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
