Football Recap: Jack Dent's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Williams over Superior

If Williams was riding high fresh off their 60-14 takedown of Mohave Accelerated last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Vikings took a 40-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Superior Panthers on Friday. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jack Dent, who threw for 258 yards and three TDs. Dent is crushing it when it comes to passing touchdowns: he's passed for at least three every time he's taken the field this season. Mario Pedraza got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Williams didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Pedraza picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Antonio Lopez went supernova For Superior., throwing for 395 yards and four touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also rushing for 34 yards and one score. Those 395 passing yards gave Lopez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryland Duarte, who picked up 164 receiving yards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Williams fell to 2-1. As for Superior, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.

Williams didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 62-26 defeat against Bagdad on the 12th. As for Superior, they have also already played their next matchup, a 48-6 win against Baboquivari on the 12th.
