Baseball Game Preview: Cary Imps vs. Middle Creek Mustangs

Cary hasn't had much luck against Middle Creek recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Cary will head out on the road to square off against Middle Creek at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Cary turned things around against Green Level on Wednesday. They blew past the Gators 8-2.

Owen Green was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Andrew Mohler was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Middle Creek got the win against Cary on Tuesday by a conclusive 9-1. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Middle Creek also got a great performance from Ryan Morris as he struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Morris has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Middle Creek saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Murray, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was Murray's first of the season. Another was Will Tobin, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The win made it two in a row for Middle Creek and bumps their season record up to 8-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Cary, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.

Cary might still be hurting after the 9-1 loss they got from Middle Creek in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Can Cary avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
