The Ayden - Grifton Chargers will challenge the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
SouthWest Edgecombe will be up against a hot Ayden - Grifton squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went the Chargers' way against North Pitt on Thursday as they made off with a 13-1 victory.
Kenlie Guthrie was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Ayden - Grifton got a big performance out of Aaliyah Williams, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Williams has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Raelyn Jones, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Ayden - Grifton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, SouthWest Edgecombe won against North Pitt last Friday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Hobgood Charter. The win was familiar territory for the Cougars, who have now won six games in a row.
Mackenzie Rogers and Alana Carroll made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Rogers struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Carroll tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. At bat, Rogers scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-5, while Carroll scored two runs while going 4-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Deniya Mayo, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Mackenzie Moore was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.
SouthWest Edgecombe pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Ayden - Grifton, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Ayden - Grifton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like SouthWest Edgecombe struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Ayden - Grifton couldn't quite get it done against SouthWest Edgecombe in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Chargers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
