Volleyball Recap: Summit Charter Collegiate Academy Falls to Chavez in First Game of Season

Summit Charter Collegiate Academy unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Chavez Titans on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bears of the 2-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2019.

Summit Charter Collegiate Academy was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The final score came out to 25-15, 25-23, 25-21.

Chavez's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mya Garcia led the charge by getting 21 assists and three digs. Those 21 assists gave Garcia a new career-high.

Coming up, Summit Charter Collegiate Academy will be playing at home against Porterville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Chavez, they will welcome Mira Monte at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
