Volleyball Recap: Coastal Academy Takes a Loss

Coastal Academy suffered their biggest loss since September 9th on Wednesday. They came up short against the Calvin Christian Crusaders, falling 3-0. The Stingrays haven't had much luck with the Crusaders recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

While Coastal Academy ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 17 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-18, 25-17.

Hannah Huffman paced Coastal Academy's offense, picking up 11 kills. Huffman got some help from Delaynie Harris and her 15 assists. Harris was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Calvin Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaidance Katje, who had eight kills, seven digs, and two aces. Those eight kills gave Katje a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lucy Gordon, who had nine kills, four digs, and four aces.

Coastal Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-20. As for Calvin Christian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-8.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Coastal Academy will take on rival Guajome Park Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Calvin Christian is set to square off against their familiar foe Escondido Adventist Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
