Recap: Rocky Bayou Christian Knights vs. Freeport Bulldogs
There's no place like home for the Rocky Bayou Christian Knights, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They strolled past Freeport with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 64-47. For Rocky Bayou Christian, this counts as revenge for the 63-48 defeat Freeport walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
Leading Rocky Bayou Christian to victory were Calix McCune and Devin Hicks. McCune scored 22 points, while Hicks dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 assists. Hicks is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lathan Johnson, who scored ten points.
Despite the loss, Freeport saw an underclassman step up: Julius Miles dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 46.8% of Freeport's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Gage Pickron, who scored eight points.
Rocky Bayou Christian's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-8. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for Freeport, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rocky Bayou Christian will take on Niceville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Fred Libby and Hicks. As for Freeport, Freeport and Destin will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Destin is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60 points per game.
