League recap: Prairie Grove extends winning streak with victory over Pea Ridge

4A Region 1 recap October 29, 2013

Prairie Grove added to the longest winning streak in 4A Region 1 this week by beating Pea Ridge, 35-28. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

Gentry made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,469 from 7,054. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 34-12 victory over Berryville last week.

The Pioneers' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jarod Cousins threw for 165 and 2 touchdowns and Stone Faulkenberry had 71 yards receiving. On the ground Cousins contributed 163 yards. Jake Faulkenberry helped Gentry's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 53 yards.

Cousins put up the best numbers through the air as Gentry defeated the Bobcats. Cousins' favorite target this week was Faulkenberry, who caught 5 passes for 71 yards.

Brian Little's team's Cousins and Faulkenberry have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Cousins has thrown for 1,083 yards this season, while Faulkenberry has 22 catches for 441 yards. Cedric Duarte from Gravette leads the league in rushing with 919 yards.

Duarte of the the Lions is just 81 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 195 carries Duarte has put up 919 yards this year.

The Pioneers are currently in fourth, while Prairie Grove is in first.
