Basketball Game Preview: Montville Wolves vs. Windham Whippets

Montville and Windham are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Montville Wolves will take on the Windham Whippets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Montville will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Plainfield, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Montville managed a 44-38 win over Plainfield on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Windham). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Griswold 86-29. Given the Whippets' advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Wolverines are ranked 69th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Windham's win came from a few key players Montville will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Asihja Harris, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 boards. That's the most points she has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelize Rivera, who went 10 of 24 on her way to 25 points and seven rebounds.

Windham smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Windham's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.6 points per game. As for Montville, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.

Montville took a serious blow against Windham when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 70-24. Can Montville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
