Softball Recap: Springfield Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Springfield entered their tilt with Northwest on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Indians 9-1. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won five contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Joey Klein spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kendall Crytzer was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Goodson, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Springfield pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Northwest, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Springfield will venture away from home to face off against Cloverleaf at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Colts have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.5 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Northwest, they will square off against Washington at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
