Baseball Recap: Washburn Triumphs

Washburn won the last time they faced St. Paul Central and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Millers walked away with a 13-9 win over the Minutemen. That's two games straight that the Millers have won by exactly four runs.

Otto McDill and Jack Moyer did most of the damage at the plate: McDill got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs, while Moyer got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Washburn is undefeated when McDill posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nolan Nelson, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

Washburn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Washburn and bumps their season record up to 5-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for St. Paul Central, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washburn will welcome Roosevelt at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. Paul Central, they will host Harding at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.33 runs per game on average), something the Minutemen will no doubt try to take advantage of.
