Softball Preview: Palmerton Blue Bombers vs. Lehighton Indians

Palmerton is 9-1 against Lehighton since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Blue Bombers will challenge the Indians at 11:00 a.m. Palmerton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Palmerton got the win against Jim Thorpe by a conclusive 15-3. The result was nothing new for the Blue Bombers, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

HAILEY BARRY made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. BARRY was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Palmerton got a massive performance out of LEAH PRUTZMAN, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave PRUTZMAN a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of MIKAYLA PENGELLY, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Palmerton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jim Thorpe only posted an OBP of .227.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Lehighton's offense. They lost 10-0 to Northwestern Lehigh on Thursday. The Indians haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Palmerton has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lehighton, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.

Everything went Palmerton's way against Lehighton in their previous meeting back in March, as Palmerton made off with a 7-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Bombers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
