Softball Recap: Fernley Wins High-Profile Match Against Lowry

Fernley faced Lowry in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. Fernley sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over Lowry. The two-run effort marked the Vaqueros' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Fernley let Grace Chapin and Taylor Tollestrup run wild. Chapin went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Tollestrup got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases. Madison Hill was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Fernley moved to 9-5 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Lowry, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-4.

Looking ahead, Fernley is taking a road trip to take on Granite Bay at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lowry, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Elko at 3:00 p.m. Elko's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Lowry's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
