Softball Recap: Eastern Randolph Wildcats vs. Northwood Chargers
Eastern Randolph had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 0-5 to make it five. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northwood Chargers. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 8-4 to the Chargers when the teams met back in March of 2017, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Eastern Randolph saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adie Beck, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was Beck's first of the season.
As for Northwood, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average this season.
On Northwood's side, Logan Thompson made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Thompson has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Madalyn Holton was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kelis Watson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Looking ahead, Northwood will head out on the road to challenge Southern Lee at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Eastern Randolph will be paying especially close attention to the Chargers' contest: after the Chargers face off against the Cavaliers, they'll take on Eastern Randolph again at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
