Softball Recap: Hughson Starts Season with Victory Against Modesto

Hughson had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Modesto Panthers 17-0. That's more bragging rights for the Huskies, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Emma Carne 2028 made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Carne 2028 was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Leanne Lopez was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Grace Leedom 2025, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Hughson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Modesto only posted an OBP of .211.

Modesto is on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Hughson has already played their next matchup, a 0-0 tie against Merced on the 19th. As for Modesto, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 14-13 defeat against McNair on the 18th.
