Basketball Game Preview: Winston-Salem Prep Phoenix vs. Bishop McGuinness Villains

Winston-Salem Prep hasn't had much luck against Bishop McGuinness recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Winston-Salem Prep Phoenix will square off against the Bishop McGuinness Villains at 6:30 p.m.

Winston-Salem Prep is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They were dealt a 55-6 loss at the hands of College Prep & Leadership Academy.

Meanwhile, Bishop McGuinness put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their match with ease, bagging a 65-24 win over Bethany Community. Given the Villains' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Wolves are ranked 305th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Winston-Salem Prep better keep an eye on Adelaide Jernigan. She was instrumental in Bishop McGuinness' win, going 10 for 23 on her way to 27 points and six rebounds. Jernigan's evening made it ten games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Sullivan, who posted nine points.

Bishop McGuinness was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Bishop McGuinness pushed their record up to 9-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Winston-Salem Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Winston-Salem Prep was taken down by Bishop McGuinness 68-26 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Winston-Salem Prep was down 42-20.
