Football Preview: Alpharetta Raiders vs. Lambert Longhorns
The Alpharetta Raiders will venture away from home to face off against the Lambert Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Alpharetta is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Having struggled with eight defeats in a row dating back to last season, Alpharetta finally turned things around against South Forsyth on Friday. They strolled past the War Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 37-20. The Raiders' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
A big part of Alpharetta's win came down to the chemistry between Palmer Mcraney and his top target Kevin Lipscomb. Mcraney threw for 164 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 passes while Lipscomb picked up 129 receiving yards. Lipscomb got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 80 yards.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Lambert's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of North Atlanta by a score of 24-21.
Despite the loss, Lambert got top-tier performance from Josiah Saunders, who rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Lambert is 2-1 when Saunders posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise.
Lambert didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Christian Smith and Harrison Richards. With that strong performance, Richards is now averaging an impressive 5.3 total tackles per game. Another thorn in North Atlanta's side was Luke Lemoine, who made 13 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Alpharetta's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Lambert, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Alpharetta couldn't quite finish off Lambert in their previous matchup back in September of 2015 and fell 17-14.
