Grossmont is 2-8 against Granite Hills since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Foothillers will look to defend their home field against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m.
Grossmont is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Valhalla. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Jake Richard was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Grossmont got a big performance out of Max Tufugafale, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Logan Struck, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Granite Hills strolled into their game on Thursday with an undefeated record and they left with the same. They were the clear victors by an 18-1 margin over El Capitan. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 11 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Tommy Entrekin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was even better at the plate, going 5-for-6 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Trevor Smith was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Brenden Lewis was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI.
Granite Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Granite Hills' victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-0-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Grossmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-16.
Grossmont might still be hurting after the 14-0 loss they got from Granite Hills in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Foothillers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
