Baseball Recap: Delavan-Darien Takes a Loss

Evansville hit Delavan-Darien with a nine-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Comets fell 16-12 to the Blue Devils. The Comets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Delavan-Darien saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haaken Hovestol, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. Hovestol is becoming a predictor of the Comets' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 6-7-1 when he doesn't). Another was Braedyn McKean, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Delavan-Darien has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8-1 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Evansville, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-13.
