Sayre extended their losing streak to 11 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-11 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cowanesque Valley Indians. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-4 back in April.
Raegan Parrish put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Abbie McGaughey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double was her first of the season. McKenna Parrish was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
As for Cowanesque Valley, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-7. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.
Like Sayre, Cowanesque Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Ashley Woodring. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. What's more, Woodring posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, Zeraya Wilson was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Ella Schaar, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Sayre and Cowanesque Valley could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Sabres will face off against Wyalusing Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (518 vs. 253). Meanwhile, Cowanesque Valley (ranked 326th) will meet Athens (ranked sixth) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
