Softball Recap: Dana Hills Takes a Loss

Dana Hills had lost eight straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 9-13 to make it nine. They lost 7-1 to the Capistrano Valley Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-2 two weeks ago.

Katie Erenyi was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

As for Capistrano Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.

On Capistrano Valley's side, Cassidy Stinnett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. Stinnett has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Madison McSorley, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Samantha Kelly was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Coincidentally, Dana Hills and Capistrano Valley will both be playing Aliso Niguel the next time they take the field. The Dolphins will host the Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Cougars will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
