Basketball Game Preview: Windber Ramblers vs. Portage Mustangs

The Windber Ramblers will square off against the Portage Mustangs at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Thursday, Windber strolled past Conemaugh Valley with points to spare, taking the game 78-64.

Meanwhile, everything went Portage's way against Cambria Heights last Thursday as Portage made off with a 63-39 win. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 21 points or more this season.

Portage's win came from a few key players Windber will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Bode Layo, who went 6 of 10 en route to 15 points. Another player making a difference was Trae Kargo, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 15 points.

Windber has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.9 points per game. As for Portage, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-5.

Windber came up short against Portage when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 65-56. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Layo, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten boards.
