Softball Recap: Springfield Renaissance Takes a Loss

Springfield Renaissance had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-4 to make it five. They lost 19-10 to the Commerce Red Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Commerce this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-8 last Monday.

Sofia Rivera was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Dylanis Molina Cordero also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

As for Commerce, they now have a winning record of 3-2. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the match before.

On Commerce's side, Adrianna Medina was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 15 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up eight earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. With that strong performance, Medina is now averaging an impressive 5.8 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.

In other batting news, Vanessa Rios and Bella Stenta did most of the damage at the plate: Rios went a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Stenta got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, five runs, and one RBI. Rios has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Melany Pineda, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield Renaissance will host Pathfinder RVT at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Commerce, they will welcome Belchertown at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
