Baseball Game Preview: Cumby Trojans vs. Fruitvale Bobcats

For the second straight game, Cumby will face off against Fruitvale. The Trojans will head out to square off against the Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cumby will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Cumby is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Fruitvale a 21-0 shutout on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won four in a row.

Montgomery Benton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two). He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Channing Herman and Jayden Evans did most of the damage at the plate: Herman scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Evans scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs Herman has posted since back in February of 2024. Gunner Campbell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.

Cumby always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .867. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.

Fruitvale's defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Cumby, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 3-14.
