Softball Recap: Cranston West Takes Down Ranked Ponaganset

Cranston West faced Ponaganset in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Chieftains. Considering the Falcons have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Mia Crudale spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up seven Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Gianna Dispirito was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Emma Regine was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cranston West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Cranston West has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Ponaganset, they dropped their record down to 4-9 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road.
