Basketball Game Preview: Westwood Redhawks vs. Conway Tigers

The Westwood Redhawks will square off against the Conway Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Westwood has three straight victories, Conway has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Westwood is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Sumter: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Westwood blew Sumter out of the water with a 58-19 final score. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Redhawks had established a 29 point advantage.

Westwood can attribute much of their success to Aneya Britt, who went 6-for-11 en route to 14 points, and Amari Alexander, who went 6-for-10 on her way to 15 points. The dominant performance also gave Alexander a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (75%). Lyric Rogers was another key player, putting up eight points.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Conway challenged Carolina Forest on Thursday. Conway was dealt a 58-14 loss at the hands of Carolina Forest. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while the Panthers are ranked 23rd).

Westwood will have to keep a close watch on Rebecca Hemingway and Ahchiya Hill, a pair of players who had a big impact on Conway's prior game. Hemingway posted nine points, while Hill earned five points and five steals. That was a full 64.3% of Conway's points, marking the third time in a row Hemingway has scored more than a third of the team's points.

Conway's defeat dropped their record down to 2-18. As for Westwood, their win bumped their record up to 12-14.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Westwood has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.2 rebounds per game.
