Softball Game Preview: Storm Lake Tornadoes vs. Cherokee Washington Braves

Storm Lake is 8-2 against Cherokee Washington since June of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Tornadoes will welcome the Braves at 6:45 p.m. Storm Lake's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so Cherokee Washington's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Storm Lake blew Denison-Schleswig out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Saturday Denison-Schleswig got their revenge. The Tornadoes fell just short of the Monarchs by a score of 7-5. Tornadoes fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Monarchs since on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Cherokee Washington came up short against West Monona on Saturday and fell 6-3.

This is the second loss in a row for Storm Lake and nudges their season record down to 6-2. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Cherokee Washington, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Everything went Storm Lake's way against Cherokee Washington in their previous meeting back in June of 2024, as Storm Lake made off with a 14-2 win. Do the Tornadoes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Braves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
