Baseball Game Preview: Martinsville Artesians vs. Greenwood Woodmen

For the second straight game, Martinsville will face off against Greenwood. The Artesians will host the Woodmen at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Martinsville is looking for their season's first win.

Martinsville fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Greenwood on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 7-6 to the Woodmen, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Rhys Wolf put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, he gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

In other batting news, Drake Davis made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Davis is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Josh Jones was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Greenwood's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Martinsville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
