Basketball Game Preview: Delta Panthers vs. Basalt Longhorns

Delta is 10-0 against Basalt since January of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Delta Panthers will host the Basalt Longhorns at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Delta has three straight victories, Basalt has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Delta will head into Friday's match hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 39-point drubbing they dealt Rifle on Friday. Delta simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Rifle 54-15. That 39 point margin sets a new team best for the Panthers this season.

Delta got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Taylor Somers out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. With that strong performance, Somers is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Breezy Huff, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Delta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, Basalt ended up a good deal behind Coal Ridge on Friday and lost 45-31.

Delta's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Basalt, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.

Everything came up roses for Delta against Basalt in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 76-4 win. Will Delta repeat their success, or does Basalt have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
