Baseball Recap: Mayfield Comes Up Short

If Mayfield was riding high fresh off their 13-3 takedown of Fulton County last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Mayfield lost 18-7 to the Hickman County Falcons on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Cardinals in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost four in a row.

Jett Hawkins made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kyler Simpson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Mayfield now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Hickman County, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Coming up, Mayfield will head out on the road to take on Ballard Memorial at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Hickman County, they will host Gleason at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Gleason has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.7 runs per game on average), something Hickman County will no doubt try to take advantage of.
