Football Recap: Pius X Drops Season-High Score on Platteview

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pius X). They secured a 19-14 W over the Platteview Trojans on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Thunderbolts also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2024.

The critical scores for Pius X came from Rylan Doering, Brady Shottenkirk, and Charlie Morrow.

Pius X's run defense was locked in: Platteview could only muster 2.2 yards per carry. The team can thank George Medinger for the heroic effort on defense: he. Pius X's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.9.

Pius X's defense didn't let Logan Grosdidier., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Medinger, Zeke Mullendore, and Marcus Roberts, who each picked up one sack apiece. Pius X got some further help from Medinger: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Grosdidier, who threw for 304 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 32 yards. Owen Trofholz was Grosdidier's top target, picking up 119 receiving yards and one score.

The victory got Pius X back to even at 2-2. As for Platteview, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Looking ahead, Pius X will head out on the road to square off against Norris at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Titans' defense has only allowed 11.2 points per game this season, so the Thunderbolts' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Platteview, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Ralston at 7:00 p.m. The Trojans are facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
