Football Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Maloney

Maloney won the last time they faced Manchester and things went their way on Friday too. The Spartans put the hurt on the Red Hawks with a sharp 37-14 victory. The Spartans pushed the score to 31-6 by the end of the third, a deficit the Red Hawks cut but never quite recovered from.

Maloney's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eli Showerda led the charge by throwing for 248 yards and four touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. Devan Bacote helped Showerda out on the ground, rushing for 119 yards and a pair of TDs.

Maloney didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Manchester to a completion percentage of just 50%. Given Showerda's standout performance, it's clear the Red Hawks' secondary just wasn't on the same level.

When it comes to explaining why Manchester lost, don't look at Jeremiah Pinckney. Despite the final result, he rushed for 97 yards on only nine carries.

The win keeps Maloney at an undefeated 4-0. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.0 points on average this season. As for Manchester, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Maloney will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Fairfield Prep at 6:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for Manchester, they will host Glastonbury at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
