Basketball Recap: Pine Falls Despite Big Games from Thomas Sawicki and Wade Singleton

On Wednesday, the Pine Knights lost to the Palm Beach Central Broncos on the road by a 59-41 margin. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 406th, while the Broncos are ranked 116th).

Despite the loss, Pine had strong showings from Wade Singleton, who posted 18 points and eight rebounds, and Thomas Sawicki, who put up 14 points and eight boards. That was a full 43.9% of Pine's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points. Jude Kolkana was another key player, putting up six points.

Palm Beach Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ryan Waugh, who earned nine points. What's more, Waugh also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Xavian Charles, who made all 5 shots he took racking up 10 points and six boards.

Pine has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season. As for Palm Beach Central, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-4.

Pine has already played their next contest, a 55-35 defeat against Atlantic Christian on the 24th. As for Palm Beach Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-31 loss against Royal Palm Beach on the 24th.
