Basketball Game Preview: Mathews Mustangs vs. Lowellville Rockets

Mathews hasn't had much luck against Lowellville recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Mathews Mustangs will face off against the Lowellville Rockets at 7:00 p.m. Lowellville took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mathews, who comes in off a win.

Mathews took a loss when they played away from home last Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They skirted past Columbiana 70-68. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted since January 16, 2024.

Meanwhile, Lowellville took a blow against McDonald on Friday, falling 64-31.

Mathews' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points over those games. As for Lowellville, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.

Mathews ended up a good deal behind Lowellville in their previous matchup back in February of 2020, losing 70-55. Can Mathews avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
