Football Recap: Gates County Takes a Loss

If Gates County was feeling good fresh off their 44-13 takedown of Northampton County last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Red Barons came up short against the Northside - Pinetown Panthers on Friday, falling 32-12. The Red Barons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Malachi Moore produced another solid effort rushing for 129 yards and two TDs on only ten carries for Northside - Pinetown. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Moore a new career-high. Jamari Whitney was another key rusher, rushing for 54 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Gates County's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Northside - Pinetown, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

After each having a week off, Gates County and Perquimans will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. This will be the Red Barons' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Northside - Pinetown, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lejeune at 7:30 p.m. on October 3. The Panthers will be up against the Devilpups' rather soft defense (which has allowed 37.8 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
