Foster Stockton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Jak Chaney looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.
Back at the plate, Culver Academies let Ty Rakan and Max Grundberg run wild. Rakan scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Grundberg went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most runs Rakan has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Trey Schumacher, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Culver Academies was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Morgan Township only posted a batting average of .222.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Westville was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They lost 8-1 to Wheeler. The loss was the Blackhawks' first of the season.
Westville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryder Becker, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Becker is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Seth Stachniack also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Westville fell to 3-1. As for Culver Academies, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Culver Academies took their victory against Westville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
