After flying high against the Chandler Prep Titans last Saturday, the Lincoln Prep Lightning came back down to earth. Lincoln Prep opened the new year with a less-than-successful 44-34 loss to Gilbert Classical Academy. Lincoln Prep was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Gilbert Classical Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Several Lightning players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jonathan Cornell, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Cornell set a new season high mark in steals with three. Torey Williams was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.

Lincoln Prep now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season.

Lincoln Prep is on the road again on Saturday and play against Cicero Prep Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 6th. Cicero Prep Academy will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Gilbert Classical Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Miami at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th. Miami is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
