League recap: St. Petersburg rises in state rank

St. Petersburg scaled the state rankings by moving to 155 from 192 this week, the biggest jump in 8A District 7. The Green Devils climbed the ranks as a result of beating Boca Ciega 41-0.

Manatee extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Southeast, 62-0. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.

Tyler Kaminski was a passing and rushing force as Palm Harbor University topped Seminole. He completed 13 passes for 166 yards and also ran for 119 yards. Kaminski's key target this week was Jacob Martinez, who caught 6 passes for 77 yards.

Joshua Meyer and Trevon Walters gave Manatee a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Meyer threw for 62 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Walters ran for 154 yards. Teammate Meyer added to the ground attack by rushing for 50 yards.

6-foot-1 quarterback Kaminski of the Hurricanes is the league leader in passing yards this season with 607. He has also thrown 5 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Kelvin McKnight. The Manatee star has 26 catches for 310 yards.

One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when Palm Harbor University and St. Petersburg face off next week.

Next week's game between Matt LePain's team and Joe Fabrizio's team will feature a good passing match up as Kaminski will test his arm against Jake Moore's defensive ability.

A big matchup in 8A District 7 this week will be when Riverview takes on Joe Kinnan's team. The Rams are in fourth place, while the Hurricanes are in first place.

The Hurricanes and the Warhawks played the most contested game in the league this week, with the Hurricanes eventually emerging with a 34-33 victory. Kaminski ran for 119 yards in the win.
