Football Recap: Longmont Comes Up Short on the Road Against Monarch + How To Watch

Longmont kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They had to suffer through a 43-13 loss at the hands of the Monarch Coyotes. Despite 66 more yards than the Coyotes, the Trojans couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Despite the loss, Longmont saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jacob Foot rushed for 173 yards and one score.

Even if they lost, Longmont's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jaden Ramirez, Braden Landers, and Evan Weaver, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Monarch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tyler Tharp led the charge by picking up 68 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 50 yards. Malakhi Payne also helped with two TDs in total.

Monarch's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Coming up, Longmont will square off against Windsor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Monarch, they will face off against Broomfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
