Baseball Game Preview: Central Catholic Raiders vs. Lawrence Lancers

The Central Catholic Raiders will face off against the Lawrence Lancers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Central Catholic had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Andover on Monday. The Raiders put the hurt on the Golden Warriors with a sharp 7-1 victory. That six-run margin sets a new team best for the Raiders this season.

Danny Snyder tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 6.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Central Catholic is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Central Catholic let Shayne Welch and Kyle Hayes run wild. Welch went 3-for-4 with one triple and two RBI, while Hayes got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Welch a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Polichetti, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lawrence). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Tewksbury Memorial a 9-0 shutout on Monday. The win was nothing new for the Lancers as they're now sitting on three straight.

Central Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Lawrence, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.

Central Catholic skirted past Lawrence 9-8 in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Lancers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
