Basketball Recap: Sandhills Valley Falls Despite Big Games from Briley Kramer and Avery Weems

Sandhills Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 36th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 49-35 bruising from the Paxton Tigers. The Mavericks were down 48-26 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Sandhills Valley's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Avery Weems, who posted 15 points and eight rebounds, and Briley Kramer, who scored six points in addition to six boards and five assists.

Even though they lost, Sandhills Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in four consecutive matchups.

Paxton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jakcee Mitchell led the charge by putting up eight points along with nine boards and five steals. That's the most steals Mitchell has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ella Fote, who earned 12 points.

Sandhills Valley's record is now 0-15. As for Paxton, they pushed their record up to 11-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Sandhills Valley will welcome Mullen on Thursday. As for Paxton, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 47-27 win against South Platte on the 8th.
