The Colfax Falcons will square off against the Oakmont Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Colfax took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They skirted past Wheatland 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Falcons have posted against the Pirates since February 27, 2018.
Colfax got a great performance from Zach Danuser as he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Garrett Lewis, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Stowers, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Oakmont came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Hillmen as they made off with a 7-1 victory. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Jaylan Patterson looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Beau Ogles was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Cooper Kunis, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Oakmont hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.
Colfax is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Oakmont, their victory bumped their record up to 15-3.
