Memorial's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They had just enough and edged the Independence Knights out 20-17. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Warriors as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Memorial wouldn't let Independence keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force four fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Ryan Laguana, Douglas Mccloud, and Jackson Webber picked up one apiece. Hunter Metcalf also set a new season high mark in total tackles with 13. Austin Metcalf was another major factor on D, making 14 total tackles (1.0 for loss) and snagged an interception.
Independence lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mckenzie West, who picked up 115 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Memorial's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Independence, they dropped their record down to 1-3 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Memorial will head out to square off against Emerson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Independence, they will take on Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Independence is facing Liberty at the right time seeing as Liberty is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
