Volleyball Game Preview: Ellicott Thunderhawks vs. The Vanguard School Coursers + How To Watch

Ellicott hasn't had much luck against The Vanguard School recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Thunderhawks will welcome the Coursers at 5:30 p.m.

Ellicott lost 3-0 to St. Mary's on Tuesday.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-7, 25-11.

Meanwhile, The Vanguard School entered their tilt with Atlas Preparatory School on Tuesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Gryphons.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: The Vanguard School took every set by at least 13 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-9, 25-6.

Ellicott better focus on containing Ainsley Anderson and Meining Zhang as the pair were huge in The Vanguard School's win. Anderson had nine assists and three aces, while Zhang hit 61.5% for nine kills and five digs and four aces. Zhang has been hot for a while, having posted five or more kills the last 25 times she's played. Ava Davis also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assists of the season.

The Vanguard School was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 22 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in November of 2024.

The Vanguard School's victory bumped their record up to 17-5. As for Ellicott, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-17.
