The University of Notre Dame's weekend football victory over Southern California had an immediate impact on Coppell (Texas) senior running back Cam McDaniel, who made a commitment on Monday to the Fighting Irish, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly traveled to Coppell on Monday and the Cowboys' star accepted his scholarship offer on the spot. He also had offers from such schools as Stanford, Colorado, Texas Tech and Cincinnati.

The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder is highly ranked due to his speed, toughness and versatility.

He has rushed for 1,859 yards and 31 touchdowns. He also is a very dangerous punt return specialist.

McDaniel will lead the unbeaten Cowboys (13-0) against No. 1-ranked Trinity (Euless, Texas) in a major state playoff game on Friday night.
