Basketball Recap: South's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

South had lost three straight headed into Thursday's matchup, but Dezmond Waters didn't let it get to four. The South Bison sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 55-53 win over the Grand Valley Cardinals on Thursday thanks in part to Waters, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 8.2 rebounds per game.

Another player making a difference was Dominic Callahan, who posted 12 points and three steals. Callahan is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season.

Despite the loss, Grand Valley still got an impressive performance from Daniel Gronewoller, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. What's more, Gronewoller also racked up two steals, the most he's had since back in January. Leonardo De La Cruz was another key player, putting up four points and four steals.

South's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Grand Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

South wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 65-38 win against Hayden on the 20th. As for Grand Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 87-56 loss against Stargate School on the 20th.
