Softball Recap: Wells Takes a Loss

Wells extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They came up short against the Crown Point Panthers, falling 29-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wells CSD of the 30-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Crown Point, they pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.

For Crown Point's part, Kaitlin Ross made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Ross was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs.

In other batting news, Crown Point got a massive performance out of Leah Pockett, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Addison Hurlburt, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wells will venture away from home to square off against Boquet Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Griffins have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.25 runs per game on average), something the Wells CSD will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Crown Point, they will head out to face off against Johnsburg Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
