Volleyball Recap: Westlake's Losing Streak Snapped at Ten Games

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Westlake walked away with it. They won by a set and slipped past the Cedar Valley Aviators 3-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Thunder as it put an end to their ten-match losing streak.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (106-103) Westlake actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The final score came out to 16-25, 26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10.

Abbi Wood was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had 15 digs and two aces. What's more, she racked up 15 assists, the most she's had since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Leiema Fano, who had five digs and two aces.

When it comes to explaining why Cedar Valley lost on Thursday, don't look at Ashley Gagnier. Despite the final result, she had 29 digs and three assists. Brinley Mcclellan also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Westlake's victory bumped their record up to 5-21. As for Cedar Valley, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-17.

Looking ahead, Westlake will challenge Skyridge at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Cedar Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
