Baseball Game Preview: Valencia Jaguars vs. Belen Eagles

Valencia is 0-10 against Belen since April of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Jaguars will welcome the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Valencia turned things around against Highland on Friday. They blew past the Hornets 9-2.

Caleb Jiron looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, Noah Vigil and Ancel Rossell did most of the damage at the plate: Vigil scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Rossell scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those two runs gave Vigil a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Yovan Suarez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Belen beat Albuquerque Academy 9-4 on Saturday.

Belen has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Valencia, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 9-11.
