Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Oxford walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Cromwell Panthers with a sharp 7-1 victory on Monday.

Cole O'Connell was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Oxford's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 4-2 (and 7-8 when he doesn't). O'Connell was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Blake Huston was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Oxford is undefeated when Huston posts two or more runs, but 8-10 otherwise. Jackson Geisweit was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Oxford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cromwell only posted a batting average of .160.

Oxford now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Cromwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10-1.

As of now, neither Oxford nor the Panthers have any future games scheduled.
